Preparing for Your Newborn's Photo Shoot
Prior to the Session
On the day of your photo shoot, bathe your little one in the morning. This isn't just for cleanliness; it can help keep them alert for a while longer. After their bath, dress them in a comfortable outfit that's easy to remove, such as a zippered or snap-up onesie. Avoid garments that need to be pulled over their head to keep them calm when it's time to start the session. If your home is a short distance from the studio, try to time the baby’s feeding to just before you leave. Otherwise, you can feed them upon arrival. Adhering to their typical feeding routine is usually most effective. Don't worry, we'll have ample opportunity for feeding and cuddling breaks if needed.
Items to Bring:
- A stash of diapers and baby wipes
- A pacifier can be a good idea, even if it's not part of your routine yet
- Extra baby formula for those not exclusively breastfeeding
- Your baby's favorite blanket, for comfort and warmth during downtime and feedings
- Any special keepsake you'd like to include in the photographs
During the Session
Expect the photo session with your newborn to take around 2 to 3 hours, allowing for a variety of setups: individual baby portraits, prop-based scenes, and family pictures with parents and siblings. It's completely normal for newborns to be vocal or need a little break for feeding. We follow their lead for a relaxed and secure experience. Safety and comfort are paramount. The studio is tailored to our youngest subjects, stocked with a variety of backdrops, accessories, and clothing options designed specifically for newborns.
Attire for the Session
As the studio environment is maintained at a warm temperature for your baby's comfort, dressing in layers is advisable for adults. Opt for light and airy neutral tones to keep the focus on your baby and ensure a timeless aesthetic in your portraits. Avoid distracting logos and patterns. For pictures involving other family members, aim for complementary but not identical clothing to add dimension and interest to your photos.
